Jake Wood is the voice of the Geico Gecko no more, and Twitter is not happy
EastEnders’ star Jake Wood has revealed he has been axed from a US voiceover role after 10 years in the job.
He may be best known in the UK for playing love rat and wheeler dealer Max Branning in the BBC soap, but the actor has also provided the Cockney twang of the Geico Gecko for a decade.
He took to Twitter to reveal the news to fans of the cute lizard used to advertise insurance.
He also told one supporter that he had been cut because of a pay dispute.
A new voice now features in the latest commercial and fans were far from impressed with the change, calling for Jake’s return.
“Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is the new voice of the geico gecko. 10 years undone in an instant 👎🏼😞 https://t.co/1WhogcOHzt”
“GEICO sacked me because I refused a huge pay cut. Nice huh?”
Jake is currently on a break from EastEnders, and was last seen in the soap in October.
